Clint Jennings and Tom Hayes, Marketing, participated in the 2015 Salute a Soldier 5k in Marshfield. Salute A Soldier is a 5K fun run/walk to honor the life of local Hero Joseph Altmann, who was killed in action on December 25, 2011, in Afghanistan. Not only has the event been a good way to remember Joe and fellow soldiers that serve or have served, but funds raised have been used to help the community.
Funds from the event have helped with the Highground’s fundraiser for the Wisconsin Military Working Dog Tribute, with K-9 units in Marshfield and Marathon County.
Granite stones that list the names of all of Marshfield’s service members killed in action have been installed on the Fallen Warrior Memorial on Veterans Parkway. Veterans Park improvements like painting the helicopter and installing three all-season picnic tables — one of which is handicap accessible — have also been helped by the Salute a Soldier event. Funds from this year’s run/walk will help with additional Veterans Park with improvements.
Tom served in the Navy from 1975 – 1979 as an Operations Specialist Petty Officer 2nd Class. He was a crew member on the Richard S. Edwards (DD 950) home port of Pearl Harbor Hawaii, and the USS Higbee (DD806) home port of Seattle Washington.
Clint was in the intelligence specialty in the Air Force from 2008-2012. He was in training in CA and TX before going to Osan Air Base in Korea for 2 years.
